AOF ONLINE: Why We Built a Magazine Out of Infrastructure

There's a version of this announcement that starts with a manifesto. You've read enough of those. This is the practical version.

AOF ONLINE exists because we got tired of the gap between what we make and how people find it. Not the work itself, the work is everywhere, across properties, across formats, across a collective that spans Cardiff and beyond. The problem was always navigation. You had to know where to look. You had to already be inside the network to understand the network.

So we built a front door.

Every week, AOF ONLINE publishes a single page. It pulls live RSS feeds from every AOF property such as artoffaceless.com, artoffaceless.org, The Hollow Circuit, the R&D division and and presents them as a magazine. Professional quality card embeds. Real images. Real titles. Every click goes directly to the original post on the original site. No walled garden. No platform intermediary. No algorithm deciding what you see first.

The covers matter too. Each weekly issue has a unique cover image, original photography or artwork and design, dated, numbered. Over time the landing page becomes a wall of covers. Every six months the base images are released as a high definition collection. Not NFTs. Not artificially scarce digital objects. Just the actual photographs, properly presented, for people who want them.

Discord is the destination for anyone who wants to be inside the conversation rather than just reading it. The feeds are public. The community isn't.

This is what decentralised independent publishing looks like when you stop apologising for having infrastructure opinions.
