The story is exclusively available on itch.io as an Ancient Greek fusion, followed by a contemporary English companion version
Marina sits alone on the obsidian sand beach of Cape Lithino, Crete, feeling the oppressive weight of ancient trauma in the landscape. Above her, the ominous constellation called the Oionos burns in the dark sky as a supernatural storm rages. Marina and her companion Alexis have become unwilling instruments of otherworldly forces, their mutated bodies acting as organic receivers for messages beyond human comprehension.
Years ago, the Epoch of Techne collapsed when information technology enslaved and hollowed out humanity. In the aftermath, survivors regressed to a more primitive, earth-based existence, their bodies mutating in response. Marina's nervous system has developed glowing filaments that extend beyond normal pathways, allowing her to receive unsettling communications through a biological network called the Systema.
As the storm intensifies, it begins actively interrogating Marina and Alexis, revealing itself as an intelligent, demanding force. Marina feels pressure against her brain stem, causing involuntary physical responses, while Alexis is struck by an invisible force, his eye rupturing. Through their supernatural communication, Alexis delivers a terrifying message: "They hear us, and they hunger." The system forces their participation, making them unwilling instruments in a larger supernatural interrogation.
Marina senses the presence of the Great Ones - ancient, evolved sperm whales that swim through consciousness itself, reshaping reality. These primordial beings question Marina about something stirring in the Saharan coast, their fear palpable. The whales communicate that there is an ancient threat awakening, with sandstorms used for obfuscation and a perversion of nature itself.
A profound silence falls, filled with something listening so intently that all other sounds cease in fear. Alexis trembles with primal terror as the answer to their communication arrives, not as a message but as an invasion. The response reveals that ancient entities are coming - they are many, they are hungry, and they remember humanity with millennia-old vengeance. Marina bleeds from multiple orifices while Alexis convulses, their bodies breaking down from the intensity of the communication.
Something forgotten has remembered them, something banished has returned, and it carries ancient grudges. Their supernatural communication system has been breached and compromised, no longer private but monitored by unforgiving entities that do not forgive. Something is traveling northward across desert and sea, bringing a nemesis that has waited eons for this moment of reckoning.
