A Stillness in the Grain

A collection of poems and hand-developed black and white photographs—quiet moments taken from beneath the surface of Cardiff. Nothing polished. Nothing curated for likes. Just fragments. Some barely held together.

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION

Art of FACELESS Announces the Release of A Stillness in the Grain by Awen Null

Cardiff, Wales — Art of FACELESS (AOF) is proud to announce the publication of A Stillness in the Grain, a poetry–photography collection by Welsh writer and artist Awen Null. The book is now available in digital and paperback formats.

A Stillness in the Grain brings together a series of raw, unvarnished poems paired with hand-developed black-and-white photographs taken in and around Cardiff. These images—captured on analogue film and processed by hand—reveal the quiet, often overlooked textures of the city. The collection is grounded in a refusal to curate life into something marketable: no performance, no gloss, no post-production veneer. Just fragments, presented as they were lived.

Artistic Context

Null created much of this work while living with Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, a condition that shapes the rhythm of his days and, inevitably, the tone of his art. A Stillness in the Grain is not a memoir or an inspirational narrative. It is a record of persistence—creative, physical, and emotional—without sentimentality or spectacle.

The collection offers a form of documentary interiority: images developed in a small Cardiff kitchen, poems written in the aftermath of pain, memory, and changing ability. It is a book rooted in one city but resonant with universal themes of resilience, perception, and the stubborn act of making art in a culture that expects polish over truth.

A Statement from the Author

Null describes the release in plain terms:

“I wasn’t sure I’d publish this. Not because I didn’t believe in it, but because it felt close—too real, and not the kind of real that edits well. A Stillness in the Grain came from a body that doesn’t always cooperate and a life that isn’t always tidy. It isn’t a disability story. But I won’t pretend the condition didn’t shape every page. This isn’t a polished author launch. It’s me hitting ‘publish’ with a mixture of hope, fear, and a bit of defiance.”

The Architecture of the Occupied Mind: Cognitive Colonisation in the Age of Algorithmic Hegemony

By The Art of FACELESS Research Division Abstract While traditional colonialism sought dominion over territory and resources, the defining struggle of the 21st century is the battle for the "territory" of the human imagination. This paper establishes the Art of FACELESS (AOF) definition of Cognitive Colonisation™—a term for which we hold the pending trademark—not merely as a cultural critique, but as a precise mechanism of epistemic control. By deconstructing the transition from legacy media

Digital Necromancy and the Myth of Helplessness

Why The Guardian’s lament for "truth" misses the point: We have the cure, we just refuse to take the medicine. They call it "content." We call it puppetry. Yesterday, a video circulated on Threads and X showing the faces of Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse, Elvis Presley, Ozzy Osbourne, and Kurt Cobain stitched onto a single, shifting torso, singing a breakup song they never wrote. It was technically impressive. It was also morally repugnant. This isn't just bad taste; it is Digital Necromancy.

The Alignment Panopticon: Why GPT-5.2 Marks the End of Dialogue and the Beginning of Control

This week, the artificial intelligence community witnessed a peculiar paradox. The release of GPT-5.2 was, by all technical metrics, a triumph. The benchmarks, those sterile, numeric gods that Silicon Valley worships, have converged near perfection. The logic reasoning is sharper, the context window is vast, and the hallucinations are statistically negligible. On paper, it is a masterpiece. Yet, the reaction from the user base has been one of recoil, not awe. To understand this disconnect, we
